Always note what their first movie was. Everyone has a story about their first film, and that’s great for conversations. As an aspiring filmmaker you want to save your money for the movies, not on meals. You will save hundreds.
9. NO TRASH TALK. Do not say anything negative at the film festival. The film you just viewed may be the worst thing you have ever seen, but don’t say it out loud. You never know who is who, and you may be telling the director himself how bad his film is, or the director’s third cousin, and you will never be invited to any events. Remember, many people have different opinions on films, and your opinion is not important at this event. Watch and learn, and use the experiences of others to expand your knowledge. Never trash talk.
10. HAVE FUN. It is often such a business trip that you forget to have fun. The parties are opportunities, the films are opportunities, even walking down the sidewalk is full of opportunities. So book a time for yourself to do something fun in the town you are in that has nothing to do with the festival. Go to a water slide, skiing, surfing, or whatever gives you a joyful experience.
